Bears Unit, St. Patrick's Day, Freebie

Only 2 more days until Spring Break! Yahoooo! I am SO ready! I love my class this year, but am ready for some down time and to recharge my batteries. I am excited to visit my sister at her college for a few days over break...it will bring me back to the good ol' days!

Tomorrow and Friday I am going to squeeze some St. Patty's day fun into the mix, since we really won't get a chance to do it any other time with Spring Break falling so early this year. By the way (little plug here)... I marked down my 38 page Lucky Leprechaun's St. Patty's Activities at my TpT store to only $2.75 just in time for the holiday! We will be doing the leprechaun class book page, a math activity, and the "How to Trap a Leprechaun" writing project from this packet tomorrow! After break, I have lots of assessing to get done for the end of the third quarter! Is anyone else in that boat? I wanted a somewhat easy theme for the two weeks following break, so our team decided to do a fiction/non-fiction unit on bears. I am excited since I've never taught all about bears before!

We are even going to do a teddy bear slumber party where the students come to school in their PJ's and bring their teddy bear. The teddy bears stay at school overnight and have a "slumber party" where they mess up the room with their sleeping backs, popcorn crumbs, toys, etc. When the students return the next day, they find the big mess and a note from their bear at their table spot! I am so excited for this and know my kiddos will LOVE it! Getting new ideas is the great part of being new at a school (this is my first year in this district). I will be sure to post pictures after we do it in a few weeks!

We will also weave the "Famous Threes" stories (3 Bears, 3 Pigs 3 Billy Goats) into this theme during our shared reading time---favorites of mine to teach! Below is a freebie that accompanies the book "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs", which is written from the wolf's point of view. The students write a letter to the wolf while he is in jail! It's pretty funny to read what they write!
